MANAGER ON DUTY

The role at a glance

  • Pay: $22+ per hour plus tips, based on experience and qualifications

  • Hours: 20 to 40+ per week

  • Schedule: Days, evenings, weekends, and long weekends. 8 to 10 hour shifts.

  • Season: May 1 to October 31

About the role

The Manager on Duty oversees daily dockside operations for Art & Water Taxi's seasonal water taxi business on the Toronto waterfront. As the first point of contact with staff, dock staff, captains, and prospective passengers, the Manager on Duty represents Art & Water Taxi to the team and the public, always conducting themselves in a professional and friendly manner.

Core duties include managing the daily schedule, coordinating team members across dock staff and captains, promoting and selling Art & Water Taxi services, managing passenger flow, maintaining the dockside workspace, assisting passengers in distress while dockside, and securing Art & Water Taxi property.

What you'll do

  • Carry out all dockside functions safely, responsibly, and cost-effectively, in line with Art & Water Taxi's Dockside Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)

  • Promote and sell Art & Water Taxi services to the public

  • Receive payment for services and manage both cash and electronic transactions

  • Embark and disembark passengers and cargo on and off Art & Water Taxi vessels

  • Maintain a tidy, well-organised work area

  • Ensure the security of all Art & Water Taxi property

  • Provide assistance to passengers or members of the public in distress on or near the dock

  • Participate in training, scheduled or otherwise, as directed by management

Who you'll report to

The Manager on Duty reports to the Operations Manager and is responsible for supervising dock staff and captains on shift.

  • Proven work experience in a customer-facing role

  • Polite, friendly, and considerate demeanour

  • Collaborative team player

  • Understanding of business and financial practices, including cash management

  • Flexible and responsive to the needs of the business

  • Excellent communication skills in English (proficiency in other languages is an asset)

  • Strong personal time management

  • Initiative and accountability

  • Able to lift 45 lbs (21 kg)

  • Able to stand for long periods

  • Able to work in all weather conditions

Required certifications (minimum standard):

  • Marine Basic First Aid (including CPR)
